A Voz do Brasil is a state-run radio news program, produced
by Empresa Brasil de Comunicação, with mandatory broadcasting (except in
exceptional cases where the Executive Branch exempts it) whose transmission must occur
from Monday to Friday (except holidays) on all Brazilian radio stations,
in the time slot from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a duration of 1 hour. If the
transmission is not at 7:00 PM, the station is required to inform at this time what
time A Voz do Brasil will be transmitted.
It is the oldest radio program
in the country and the southern hemisphere still in broadcasting.
It was created in 1935, during
the government of Getúlio Vargas, under the name Programa Nacional.
In 1938, it became
mandatory broadcasting with a fixed schedule from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, and its name changed to A
Hora do Brasil. In 1971, it adopted the name A Voz do Brasil, which it maintains to this day.
